Providence provided technical support for the installation and commission of a drinking water treatment facility and piping replacement at the Soto Cano Air Force Base in Comayagua, Honduras. The largest project obstacle was that the per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)-contaminated groundwater supply required proper treatment prior to distribution. During construction, Providence reviewed all material and equipment submittals to ensure compliance with the water treatment system design requirements, responded to all requests for information (RFI) during the construction, provided controls integration, and reviewed all subcontractor submittals. Once construction was completed in 2024, Providence’s engineering team ensured the system was operational and trained local operators and personnel to ensure optimization. Standard water sampling post-construction revealed the largest project success — all measured PFAS were removed to non-detectable levels, an overwhelming project success due to the strict PFAS drinking water standards and lack of regulatory and scientific information on the quickly evolving topic. Providence currently provides as-needed operational support for the treatment facility.
