West Grand Terre Island is part of a barrier island chain that separates Barataria Bay from the Gulf of Mexico. Heavily impacted by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, the West Grand Terre Island Project restored 235 acres along 12,700 feet of beach, dune, and back barrier marsh habitat to address storm surge and wave attenuation, gulf shoreline erosion, and subsidence of back barrier marshes. Phase 1 of the West Grand Terre Beach Nourishment and Stabilization project was the demolition and removal of former Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) structures. Due to the age of the buildings, lead-based paints (LBPs) and/or asbestos containing materials (ACM) were identified. Providence provided multimedia services throughout the demolition, removal, and project closeout. Specific work included a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment, Bird Nesting and Species of Concern Surveys for three months during the demolition, Hazardous, Toxic, and Radioactive Waste (HTRW) services, asbestos inspections, construction administration, oversight, and inspections services, bid coordination, and biological monitoring drone services to ensure environmental compliance after the project was complete.
